CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Three Boston College field hockey players are keeping busy with USA Field Hockey competition this summer.
Already having played at the Young Women’s National Championship last week, rising junior Emily McCoy has been selected to participate in USA Field Hockey’s U21 Junior National Camp, which is being held this week at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa.
Athletes attending this camp will have the opportunity for selection to the U.S. Under-21 Team, which will be named next month in preparation for the Junior Pan Am Tournament and Junior World Cup, both of which will be held in 2016.
McCoy joined her twin sister Eryn and rising sophomore Alyssa Olenick at last week’s Young Women’s National Championship. Eagles assistant coach Phil Edwards was also a coach at the event.
In addition to Emily McCoy’s U21 success, two incoming freshmen are also seeing time with USA Field Hockey this summer.
Lucy Lytle is currently attending the Futures Elite Championship – the top level of the Olympic Development Pipeline – which includes the top 72 athletes in the Futures Elite Program competing for a place in next week’s U19 Junior National Camp. Lytle, who is joining the Eagles’ program from Deerfield Academy and who hails from Lake Forest, Ill., is playing with Team Freedom.
Elizabeth Dennehy, a product of Weston, Mass., is currently competing in the U19 National Futures Championship. A member of Team Tokyo – one of 12 teams of 15-17 athletes – Dennehy is vying for the opportunity to be part of USA Field Hockey’s Olympic Development Program, including a chance to also be named to the U19 Junior National Camp.
The U19 Junior National Camp is set for July 5-9, and Boston College head coach Kelly Doton will be working with both the U19 and U17 teams during the camp.
All USA Field Hockey events are being held at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa.
