Coral Gables, Fla.- Boston College fell to a strong University of Miami team, 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
The Eagles played well in the doubles competitions, taking two out of three matches and sealing the 1-0 lead. Hank Workman and Kyle Childree defeated Nile Clarke and Alexander Fahnehjelm in the No. 2 doubles spot, 8-4. Matt Wagner and Jeffrey Melvin defeated Bernard Tefel and Andrew Harrington in the No. 3 doubles spot, 8-2.
The doubles victory would be the lone point for the Eagles as they would drop all six singles matches against Miami. Three of the six matches went to three sets.
Despite the loss, head coach Scott Wilkins was very impressed by his team's effort.
"Playing Miami on the road is always a challenge and we were right there," he said. "The guys fought hard and really pushed Miami in several matches. These guys compete so well and we just have to move on to the next opportunity."
Boston College will take their 6-11 record to Chapel Hill on Friday, April 3 for a 3 p.m. match against North Carolina.
