Field Hockey Head Coach Ainslee Lamb Resigns
March 10, 2015 | Field Hockey
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College field hockey head coach Ainslee Lamb will step down from her position, effective March 31, 2015, to pursue other career opportunities outside of the collegiate arena.
Lamb has led the Eagles for the last 10 seasons since coming to The Heights in February 2005. With her at the program's helm, Lamb's Eagles posted winning seasons each year, including every season while playing in the ACC.
"Leaving the BC family was an extremely difficult decision for me," Lamb said. "I have thoroughly enjoyed spending the last 10 years here growing both professionally and personally. I very much appreciate the opportunities that BC provided me and I am proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes. It's a wonderful thing to wake up every day and want to get in to the office or onto the field. It truly bears out the saying, `Find a job you truly love and you'll never have to work a day in your life.'
"The student- athletes here at BC have made this a great 10 years and the coaches and administration contributed so much to my enjoyment with the program. I move on knowing that BC has prepared me well - and has certainly set the bar high for my future expectations. I look forward to the new challenges that lay ahead as I venture into the sports industry," Lamb concluded.
"We want to wish Ainslee all the best as she moves on to the next stage of her personal and professional life," Boston College athletics director Brad Bates said. "Ainslee has been a tremendous leader for us, and has held her student-athletes to the highest ideals, on and off the field. Her teams have been exceptionally active in the community, and consistently top performers in the classroom. She's led our field hockey program to a new, exciting level and has left it in a fantastic place for the next head coach."
Under Lamb's tutelage, the Eagles were 121-75 and made four trips to the NCAA Tournament (2005, 2009, 2013 and 2014). She has coached 20 players to 33 All-America honors and 10 student-athletes to 15 All-Atlantic Coast Conference recognitions. The Eagles also gained their highest-ever national ranking - No. 4 - under Lamb, and were a consistent Top 10 program under her direction.
Six of the team's 16 wins over top-10 opponents under Lamb came in the last two seasons, including wins over No. 2 UConn, No. 4 Syracuse, No. 7 Louisville and No. 8 Virginia in 2014.
Achieving in the classroom as well, 29 of Lamb's student-athletes earned 56 All-ACC Academic team honors and 27 players garnered 52 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Academic Squad recognition (before the 2014 awards are announced later this month).
Four of Lamb's student-athletes earned ACC Postgraduate Scholarships, two were named BC Eagle of the Year and one was honored as the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
