Women's Swimming Finishes 12th at ACC's

ATLANTA - The 2015 Women's ACC Swimming and Diving Championships concluded on Saturday, Feb. 23rd after four days of tough competition. BC was represented by a strong group of women who all had performances that reflected their long season of training.
The relays were the strongest showings of competition for the Eagles. In the finals of the 800 yd. freestyle relay, Emily Downs '15, Lizzie Manning '16, Grace Gibbons '18 and Amanda Bieler '18 came in 12th place with a time of 7:77.74. In the finals of the 200 yd. freestyle relay, Maureen Barron '16, Downs, Annie Fothergill '15 and Grace Kunkel '17 came in 12th place with a time of 1:34.75. In the finals of the 400 yd. medley relay, Madeline Mailliard '17, Melissa Merwin '15, Jordan Parry '16 and Barron came in 11th place with a time of 3:49.16, setting a new Boston College school record. In the finals of the 400 yd. freestyle relay, Barron, Downs, Fothergill and Manning tied with Georgia Institute of Technology for 11th place with a time of 3:26.59.
Freshman Amanda Bieler came in 23rd place in the finals of the 1,650 yd. freestyle with a time of 17:35.27 and was the only individual to qualify for the finals of an event. Melissa Merwin broke her own record in the preliminaries of the 100 yd. breaststroke, setting the new record at 1:04.67.
Men's Diving Championships also took place over the long weekend. Despite not qualifying to final rounds, Cole Malatesta '17 performed well in the preliminaries, scoring 303.05 for 20th place in the 3 meter, 273.85 for 24th place in the 1 meter, and 190.30 for 26th place in the platform event.
In the end, Boston College placed 12th overall at the 2015 ACC Championships, defeating Clemson University.
When the meet was over, the women's Most Valuable Swimmer award was given to Tanja Kylliainen from Louisville, Most Valuable diver was awarded to Kaylea Arnett from Virginia Tech, and Men's Most Valuable diver was awarded to Briadam Herrera from Miami.
Congratulations to the BC Women's Swimming and Diving team, as well as the Men's Diving team on a strong season.
The ACC Men's Swimming Championships will commence at Georgia Tech in Atlanta on Wednesday Feb. 25th and last through Saturday Feb. 28th. Representing the Eagles for the men will be Tim Benage, Conor Chamness, Daniel Creighton, Drew Cuttic, Nick Henze, David Howard, David Hunter, R. Emmett Johnson, Dan Kelly, Kevin McCoy, John Mooers, Anthony Richardson, Andrew Stranick, Josh Williams, Matthew Zerweck,and Nicolas Junghahn.
