CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Two members of the Boston College women's soccer team were named to the All-ACC Academic Team as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference today.
Senior forward Stephanie McCaffrey and sophomore forward Hayley Dowd earned a spot on the team. This is the fourth season in which McCaffrey has been named to the All-ACC Academic team and the second time Hayley Dowd has earned the honor.
Boston College senior Stephanie McCaffrey has been named to the U.S. Under-23 Women's National team roster for the first training camp of the year as announced by US soccer on Dec. 31. The training session will run from Jan. 3-10 at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, California.
McCaffrey was a first-team All-ACC selection this past fall. She was the teams' second leading scorer with six goals and a team-high seven assists for 19 points. She has compiled 90 career points, which makes her only the fourth players to score 90 or more points in program history. She was also a 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women's All-Southeast Region second team honoree. She is also a three-time All-ACC honor roll student and an Athletic Director's Award for Academic Achievement honoree.
A native of Winchester, Massachusetts, McCaffrey was drafted fifth overall in the 2015 National Women's Soccer League Draft (NWSL) in January. Minutes later, Chicago traded McCaffrey to her hometown team the Boston Breakers. Prior to the draft, McCaffrey trained with the full Women's National team in California, after spending a week with the Under-23 team.
McCaffrey will graduate from Boston College in May of 2015 with a degree from the Carroll School of Management.
Dowd, a sophomore, led BC in scoring with a career-high 15 goals, three assists for 33 points in 2014. A native of Peabody, Massachusetts, Dowd led the ACC in goals scored and was second in points during the regular season. Dowd also had a team-high five game-winning-goals. The Eagles forward has had four two-goal games this season. She was an All-ACC second team honoree and NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Southeast Region selection this past season.
