Kelly Hughes Named ACC Player of the Week

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Sophomore Kelly Hughes has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office.
Hughes scored a career-high 32 points as the Eagles picked up a victory at Wake Forest on Thursday. Hughes was 11-for-24 (.458) from the floor, 7-for-16 (.428) from three-point land, grabbed eight boards and five steals. The seven three-pointers and the five steals are also career-highs for the Eagles sophomore guard.
A native of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Hughes had a career-high 18 points in the first half. She cut into the Wake Forest lead with under seven minutes to play on her own eight point run which included two three's. She then tied the game on a lay-up with less than six minutes left to play. Hughes gave BC a, 73-72, lead with 2:48 left. Twenty seconds later, Hughes stole the ball at the 2:11 mark which led to two free throws by Nicole Boudreau and a BC lead.
Hughes leads BC in points per game (14.9), rebounds (7.0) and ranks first in the ACC in three-pointers made (23 games, 64 three's). She also ranks fourth in the conference in 3-pointer field goal percentage (.383) and seventh in free throw percentage (.825).
The Eagles will host NC State today at 5:30 at Conte Forum. BC will then head north and play at No. 25/22 Syracuse on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
