Chandler, Erdle, Mannelly and Margolis tabbed to lead Eagles in 2016
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass – The Boston College Women's Lacrosse program has announced that Tess Chandler, Molly Erdle, Sarah Mannelly and Caroline Margolis will serve as captains for the 2016 season. The announcement was made by head coach Acacia Walker on Wednesday.
Walker said,
"Excited would be an understatement! The four players that have been voted as our 2016 team captains are respected and admired leaders who will battle for each other and their teammates. All four girls have the power to influence and that is something incredibly valuable for a team. They are all very different but they share an amazing vision for BC Lacrosse. Not only will they mentor, influence, manage and motivate their teammates, but they will take the responsibility that comes with being a captain. Anyone who has been a captain knows, it is not as glamorous of a job as most may think but I have trust in these girls to get the job done. They are the kind of people you want to lead your team, whether you are watching or not."
All four student-athletes were a crucial part of the 2015 Eagles season, a season in which the team's .789 winning percentage was the highest percentage in program history. The quartet helped Boston College advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last May after going 15-3 during the regular season.
Chandler, a junior midfielder from Hopkinton, tallied 28 goals and added eight assists while Molly Erdle, a senior defender from Lone Tree, Col. registered 17 caused turnovers, the second highest on the team, to go along with 33 ground balls.
Caroline Margolis, a native of Raleigh, N.C. who started all 19 games for the Eagles in 2015, registered 37 goals and 28 assists while winning 34 draw controls as a junior last season.
Senior midfielder Sarah Mannelly, of New Canaan, Conn., tied for the team high in goals with 50 while her 117 shots were a team-high. The first ever Tewaaraton-Award finalist in Boston College history, a feat she achieved following the 2015 campaign, Mannelly added 17 assists and caused a team-high 21 turnovers against opponents.
Mannelly was recognized as an IWLCA All-American, having scored at least one goal in every game, while Margolis was named to the IWLCA-All Northeast Region Second Team. Tess Chandler and Margolis were also named to the 2015 All-ACC Academic Team.
The Eagles will kick off the 2016 campaign when they travel to rival Boston University for a 1 p.m. bout with the Terriers on February 14.
