Eagles’ line mates recognized after 8-1 win at BU on Saturday
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Line mates Alex Carpenter and Makenna Newkirk were recognized by Hockey East on Monday for their efforts in the women's hockey team's 8-1 win at Boston University on Saturday.
Â
Carpenter drew Warrior co-Player of the Week honors – her fourth player of the week nod this season – while Newkirk claimed her second Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week award of the season.
Â
A senior, Carpenter collected five points – one goal and four assists – in BC's win over the Terriers marking her second five-point game of the season. In the process, she also claimed the Boston College career assist record, moving to 113 overall and passing Kelli Stack '11 (111). Carpenter shared this week's player of the week award with Providence's Madison Sansone, who had two goals in the team's 5-4 win over New Hampshire. This is Carpenter's fourth player of the week nod this season, and the 13th of her career.
Â
Newkirk became the first freshman to record a hat trick since 2012-13 when she potted the Eagles' final three goals against the Terriers. The three goals pushed her season total to nine and she heads into this week as the nation's leading freshman goal scorer. Newkirk ranks third on the Eagles' squad with 15 points (9 goals, 6 assists). Her nine goals are tied for seventh nationally and she is tied for third nationally with three power-play goals.
Â
Boston College (11-0-0, 5-0-0 HEA) returns to action tomorrow – Tuesday, Nov. 10 – when the team hosts the return game of the extended weekend home-and-home series with Boston University. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at Kelley Rink, and the game will be streamed live on bceagles.tv.
