Eagles’ stalwarts honored with the league’s weekly awards
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College senior forward Alex Carpenter and sophomore defenseman Megan Keller drew weekly honors from Hockey East for their play in a pair of wins last week.
Carpenter was tabbed Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week, while Keller was the Defensive Player of the Week. In two games, second-ranked BC topped Providence 9-1 at home before defeating No. 4 Northeastern 6-1 on the road.
Carpenter posted seven points in the pair of wins, collecting two goals and five assists. Against Providence, she potted one goal and added three assists before scoring a power-play goal and chipping in a pair of helpers against the Huskies. Her efforts lifted her season scoring total to 39 points, the top mark in the nation, and a share of the national lead in goals (21) headed into this week's action.
Keller helped back the Eagles to a pair of wins on both ends of the ice. Defensively, she helped the Eagles hold both opponents to a single goal, with both strikes coming with a man advantage. BC limited Providence to just 18 shots, while the Eagles held Northeastern to a single goal as they came in averaging more than 4.5 goals per game. On offense, Keller collected a pair of assists in each game pushing her season point total to 20 points (5 goals, 15 assists).
This is Carpenter's fifth player of the week nod this season, and the 14th of her career, while Keller picked up her second defensive player of the week honor this season and the Eagles' fifth weekly defensive honor of the 2015-15 campaign.
The No. 2 Eagles (17-0-0, 11-0-0 HEA) return to action this weekend when they travel to face Maine (6-11-0, 3-7-0 HEA) for a two-game set in Orono. The games are set for Saturday, Dec. 5, and Sunday, Dec. 6, at Alfond Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. on both days, and the games will be streamed live on goblackbears.com.
