Eagles’ senior defenseman picks up award after stand-out performance against Northeastern
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College senior defenseman Kaliya Johnson earned Hockey East defensive player of the week honors on Monday after playing a key role in the Eagles' 4-2 win over No. 5 Northeastern on Friday.
The Chandler, Ariz., product was part of the Eagles' defensive unit that limited the Huskies to only 24 shots in the win. BC also held Northeastern – which entered the game second nationally in goals per game (5.25) – just two goals.
On the offensive end of the ice, Johnson scored the Eagles' third goal which also proved to be the game-winning goal. It was her first tally of the season and just the fourth goal of her career.
This is Johnson's first-ever Hockey East weekly award in her four-year career, and the Eagles' fourth defensive player of the week recognition this season.
Johnson and the second-ranked Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 25, when they host Providence at Kelley Rink. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on bceagles.tv.
