Boston College fell to Louisville 3-0 in the final game of their opening ACC road trip at Louisville's KFC Yum! Center Sunday afternoon. Katty Workman led all Eagles with eight kills and 13 digs while libero Madisen Lydon added eight digs. Senior middle hitter Kam McLain tallied five blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One:
After the Eagles and Cardinals split the first six points of the set, Louisville went on an 8-1 run to extend their lead to 11-4. After UL notched two additional points, Katty Workman stopped the Louisville run with a kill before BC forced an attack error to bring the set score to 13-8. The red and black offense was too much for Boston College as they finished on a 12-4 run as they took the first set 25-12.
Set Two:
The Eagles fell in the second set by an identical score of 25-12 to Louisville as the Cardinals led the entire set. With the score tied at 1-1, Louisville went on a 10-1 run to take an early 11-2 lead. A Janelle Jenkins service error and a Workman kill cut the deficit down, but once again, the potent offense of Louisville was too much for BC to handle. The Maroon and Gold fired off two quicks runs of 3-0 and 2-0 in the second half of the set, but an Eagle attack error granted Louisville their 25th point of the match and a 2-0 match lead as they entered into the break.
Set Three:
Boston College's offense showed the most energy of their three sets in the third and final frame, but Louisville had an answer for every Eagle strategy as the Cardinals took the third set 25-17 and the match 3-0. With the final frame tied at four-all, Louisville went on a 7-4 run and led 11-8 nearing the half way point of the set. UL extended their lead with another run of 10-6 and they finished on a 4-3 run. Workman and McKenna Goss tallied two kills each of BC's seven total kills in the frame.
COACH QUOTES:
"It was a frustrating end to the weekend - for the players and coaches. We learned what happens in the ACC when you don't show up prepared, mentally and physically, to play your best. We'll find out if that lesson has truly sunk in during the coming week of practice."
UP NEXT:
Boston College returns home on Friday night, Oct. 9 for their ACC home opener against Virginia Tech. They will also host Pittsburgh (Oct. 11), Syracuse (Oct. 14) and Virginia (Oct. 16) at Power Gym as part of the homestand.
