Day 4: Devlin S-AFE Trip
January 09, 2015 | Devlin Student-Athlete Formation & Succe
Seventeen BC student-athletes have traveled to New Orleans to rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina as part of the Devlin S-AFE Service Immersion Trip. Each day, student-athletes on the trip will write about the experience.
Day 4
We began our fourth day of work at Marais Street with new friends from Tulane, who were from a variety of sports including football, baseball and bowling.
We continued to drywall the house and made a ton of progress! All of the ceilings and most of the walls have been completed. It's great to see the improvement that we've made on the house since day one, as it progresses from a collection of framed rooms to an actual home.
After working on our home, we visited the local Boys & Girls Club to hang out with the youth of New Orleans. Since last year, the club has undergone some significant construction. Hopefully the new athletic grounds will be fully complete by this time next year!
All of the children that we met had meaningful stories to tell us about how Hurricane Katrina had impacted their lives, and we all left with a new appreciation for the opportunities BC has provided us with.
We're all excited to see how far we can get on our house tomorrow, but upset that it's our last day together!
