Chapel Hill, N.C- Coming off of a narrow defeat by LSU yesterday, No. 59 Boston College was able to grab their first win of the season this morning against #73 Minnesota, 4-1.
"I'm proud of our girls for bringing their energy today," said Coach Nigel Bentley. "We were able to bounce back from a tough loss yesterday. All these matches are so close. It really challenges every team to bring their maximum physical and mental energy each time. I thought we did a good job of that today."
In the doubles set, the combinations of Katya Vasilyev /Emily Safron (6-2) and Jessica Wacnik/Lexi Borr (7-5) helped the Eagles attain an early 1-0 lead. As for sophomore Emily Safron, Coach Bentley sees she's making improvements.
"Emily has been working hard on her doubles game," he said. "She really looked more comfortable out there. She and Katya played well together."
As for the singles competition, Jessica Wacnik continued her bounce-back singles performance with a win over Tereza Brichacova (6-2, 6-3).
Emily Safron added onto her successful day with a win of her own over Julia Couter (7-6 [7-3], 6-2).
Freshman Asiya Dair would seal the win for the Eagles, making it her first singles win of the spring season (6-2, 5-7, 6-1).
"It is nice to get our first win of the season," said Bentley. "Minnesota is a good team. We need to continue to improve each day in practice. I'm looking forward to a productive week in preparation for our match against Harvard."
The (1-2) Eagles will travel to Harvard University for a match on Saturday, January 31st at 4:00 p.m.
