COLUMBUS - Former Eagle and Hobey Baker winner Johnny Gaudreau will play for Team Towes in the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game on Sunday afternoon at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The NHL All-Star Game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
The left winger is in his first year with the Calgary Flames and has made waves his rookie season. Heading into the All-Star break, the Carneys point, N.J., native is the second-leading rookie scorer in the NHL, having accrued 35 points (13-22-35) with a plus/minus rating of +11. He is only five points behind Nashville’s rookie, Filip Forsberg.
On Saturday, Jan. 24, Gaudreau participated in the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition and made headlines for his antics with Philadelphia’s Jakub Voracek, who used Gaudreau as a prop in his shootout move.
Gaudreau was one of six rookies named to participate in the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition on Saturday. He is the third rookie from that group who will play in the All-Star Game, joining Florida Panthers’ defenseman Aaron Ekblad and Forsberg.
In his final season at Boston College in 2013-14, Gaudreau posted the third-highest point total in BC hockey history and the most of any college hockey player since Peter Sejna's 82-point performance with Colorado College in 2002-03. In 40 games played, Gaudreau accrued 36 goals and 44 assists, averaging an NCAA-best 2.00 points per game. His 80 points in a season falls just three points shy of the school record set by Craig Janney (28-55-83) in 1986-87. Gaudreau left The Heights as the 10th most prolific scorer with 78 goals and 97 assists for 175 points in 119 games played.
Gaudreau will be Boston College’s lone representative in this year’s NHL All-Star Game.
