RECAPPING LAST NIGHT
Sophomore Adam Gilmour’s late third-period tally salvaged a point for No. 16 Boston College at Matthews Arena as the Eagles skated to a 1-1 draw at Northeastern on Friday night. The Eagles trailed for a majority of the contest before Gilmour’s marker at 17:45 in the final period of regulation forced the tie.
Gilmour has discovered a penchant for timely goals at Matthews Arena. The Hanover, Mass., native netted the Eagles last overtime-winning goal on Nov. 2, 2013, at the site of tonight’s tilt. Gilmour’s last two goals at Northeastern have been a game-tying goal and an overtime winner.
Sophomore goaltender Thatcher Demko kept the Eagles afloat with 30 saves in his first start back for BC since returning from the World Junior Tournament. Northeastern’s Clay Witt steered away 32 Eagle attempts.
Rookie forwards Alex Tuch and Zach Sanford provided the assists on Gilmour’s game-tying tally.
- Adam Gilmour’s two-career goals at Northeastern have proved to be timely. The Hanover, Mass., native’s first goal at Matthews Arena took place in the form of the overtime winner on Nov. 2, 2013. Tonight’s goal stood as the game-tying marker.
- Adam Gilmour’s three-game goal scoring streak (Jan. 1-9) marks a career long is just the second time an Eagle has scored a goal in three-consecutive games. Ryan Fitzgerald turned the trick in BC’s first three games of the season (Oct. 10-24).
BACK ON TRACK
After a bit of an uneasy start (4-5-0), Boston College has rattled off a 7-2-2 record, including a string of six-unbeaten dating back to Dec. 6 against New Hampshire. The Eagles are unbeaten in their last six outings (4-0-2), tying for third longest in the country. A victory against Northeastern on Saturday night would give the Eagles their longest winning streak of 2014-15.
COMEBACK KIDS
In the last three consecutive contests Boston College has trailed heading into the third period, the Eagles have either rallied back to tie or win. At New Hampshire on Dec. 5, Austin Cangelosi netted the game-tying goal with 4:45 left in regulation in Durham while Chris Calnan and Teddy Doherty teamed up in the third period at Dartmouth on Jan. 2 to overcome a one-goal deficit and take down the Big Green, 3-2, after trailing heading into the final period. Adam Gilmour logged the game-tying goal against Northeastern on Jan. 9 with 2:45 left in regulation.
TAG, YOU’RE IT
When Boston College scores first, the Eagles have mounted an 8-2-1 record.
