Day 5: 2015 Devlin S-AFE Trip
January 10, 2015 | Devlin Student-Athlete Formation & Succe
Day 5
Today was our last full day in New Orleans. We got up bright and early to finish our work on the Marais house. We completed the drywall in many of the rooms we'd been working on, and painted the back of the house. Having the opportunity to work alongside the student-athletes from Tulane was also a great experience for us. Together, we were able to complete much of the house and they were a great bunch!
When it was time to go, it was sad to leave the house that we had been working so hard on and say goodbye to Lorraine and Kim, our site supervisors from St. Bernard Project.
We're looking forward to hearing more about the house's progression and we'll follow the Twitter hashtag #sbpmarais to get updates and finally see the finished project. We know it will be something we're proud to have been a part of.
As you would probably expect, the next part of our day was spent working out at Tulane University's weight room and getting to see a little bit more of the campu. Their athletic facilities are awesome! We even saw a few of our Tulane friends from the morning work.
After returning from Tulane, Jean and James had dinner waiting for us: a big pot of Gumbo! The two of them have given us a great taste of New Orleans cuisine and we're so glad that they agreed to cook for us this week.
For our last night in New Orleans, we had a little bit of free time and visited the French Quarter, where Jackson Square Garden and the area's little shops were some of the highlights.
It will be sad leaving New Orleans, but this week has been a blast. The 17 of us have bonded so much. However, we're excited to fly back to Boston and return to our own campus. There's no place like home!
