The Boston College women's soccer team earned the fourth consecutive road wins with a, 2-0, victory Milwaukee at Engelmann Stadium on Friday night. BC is now 5-1 on the season and will play at Illinois State on Sunday at 2 p.m. on NSCATV. Milwaukee is now 1-5.
"I have to give our girls a lot of credit, we have been on the road all season and to have four consecutive shutouts and five victories over NCAA Tournament speaks volumes about their determination and resilience," said head coach Alison Foley.
Junior Lauren Benard and sophomore Hayley Dowd scored to lead the Eagles, while senior Alexandra Johnson earned her fifth victory and four shutout of the season. Milwaukee had an early chance to pull ahead of the Eagles on a penalty kick in the 27th minute. Vienna Behnke was awarded a penalty kick when an errant bouncing ball hit a BC defenders hand. Eagles goalkeeper Alexander Johnson stepped up and dove to her right to make the save and keep the game knotted at, 0-0.
The Eagles then took the lead off a corner kick in the 47th minute of the game. Bernard deflected the ball to the far post off a short corner. It was Bernard's second goal of the season and Meg MacDonald and Stephanie McCaffrey were credited with assists.
At the half, Boston College had a, 9-2, edge in shots and had two corners while Milwaukee no attempts.
In the 79th minute of the game, Dowd scored her fourth goal of the season off a through ball from Bernard. It marked the third consecutive game in which Dowd has scored a goal.
Boston College had 15 shots in the game, while Milwaukee had six. BC held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Johnson had four saves in the match including a penalty kick in the first half. Milwaukee's goalkeeper Paige Lincicum had eight saves in the loss.
BC Game Notes
• The four saves made by Alexandra Johnson was a season-high for the senior goalkeeper.
• Junior Lauren Bernard notched three points (1 goal, 1 assist) for the first time in her career. The Vermont native is the third player on the team to notch a multiple-point game. She has also recorded point in the last three games. The other two players with multiple point games are Stephanie McCaffrey and Hayley Dowd. McCaffrey has two multiple-point games - Colgate and North Florida, while Dowd completed the feat against North Florida.
• Freshman Cami Didio played a career-high 41 minutes.
• Jillian Lutz started her third career game and second consecutive.
• Senior Stephanie McCaffrey has recorded a point in four of the six games. She is the second leading scorer with two goals and four assists for eight points.
• Sophomore Hayley Dowd has scored four goals in the last three games. She leads BC in scoring with four goals, one assists nine points.
