Field Hockey Picked Fourth in Preseason ACC Poll

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team was selected to finish fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference preseason coaches poll released by the league Monday afternoon. With their predicted fourth-place finish, BC moves up three spots from last years' preseason coaches poll. For the second year in a row, senior midfielder Emma Plasteras was voted to the preseason All-ACC team.
In the 2013 season, Emma Plasteras earned Longstreth/NFHCA All-America First-Team honors as well as Northeast Regional Player of the Year and All-Northeast Regional First-Team accolades. Plasteras also garnered First-Team All-ACC honors. The Vancouver native led the team with 11 goals, 12 assists, 34 points and four game-winning goals last season. Plasteras came in fourth in the ACC for assists per game and ninth for points per game. She plays an integral role in BC's offense and inserting corners.
The Eagles, who finished the 2013 season 12-8 overall with a 1-5 ACC record, tied Wake Forest earning 16 points in the preseason coaches poll and a predicted fourth-place finishing spot. North Carolina earned 31 total points and the first place spot. North Carolina reached the ACC Championship game and the NCAA Tournament semifinals last season.
North Carolina and Duke lead the preseason All-ACC team with three players apiece. The only team not represented on the 2014 Preseason All-ACC team is Louisville, who joins the ACC for the first time this year.
The Eagles kick off the season at Quinnipiac Friday, Aug. 29 at 3 p.m. Their home opener at the Newton Field Hockey Complex is Sunday Sep. 7 at 3 p.m. against University of Massachusetts.
