August 20, 2014 | Women's Basketball
Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
Alexa Coulombe will enter her third season at Boston College. The Eagles 6-foot-2 forward played in every game and earned three starts last season. A very proud native of the state of Maine, Coulombe is always about the team, what she can do to help not only on the court but off. She has a solid work ethic and deflects any compliments towards other. Here is your chance to learn a little more about Alexa Coulombe.
Describe your game; strengths and areas to work on:
I would say that my type of "game" really mirrors the one that the whole team plays at BC. I like team basketball. I love making the pass that gets someone the shot or taking part in a play with a lot of ball movement. For my personal game, I love driving when I'm on the wing and face-up post moves when I'm a forward. Typically I'm outsized in the post but I use what I have to my advantage and can out-quick a lot of the post players. Some of the areas that I really tried to focus on this summer was making my outside shot more consistent and also really upping my ball handling so I can handle it under pressure and on the wing with more efficiency.
Talk about your favorite moment on the basketball court at BC?
When I look back over my last two years there have been some really good times and of course a few bumps in the road. I distinctly remember last year when we played against Georgia Tech at Georgia Tech. We were coming off of a low as a team and we were trying to get our rhythm back and our "game" going. I remember that game as the first time during our low that we really clicked and walking into that locker room at half time with my teammates had a different energy about it than it had all season. It wasn't really a stellar game for anyone on the stat sheet necessarily but I remember people diving on the floor, laying their bodies out for the team, and people stepping up when they had to. I remember that game as a pivotal point in figuring out who we wanted to be as a team and it gave us direction as to what level we were capable of playing at but also what level we needed to always strive to be at.
If you could play another sport at BC, which one would it be?
Since I also get the statement "so you're on the volleyball team right?" around campus, I'm going to go with Volleyball.
What is your favorite sport to watch at BC?
I grew up with hockey in my blood since my family is obsessed so I love going to the hockey games. I love the atmosphere of BC hockey and how much fun the games are. My dad doesn't love the fact that I still don't completely know when things like icing occur or any of the specific rules actually, but I'm working on it.
Do you have any important tips for any youngster thinking about being a collegiate athlete?
One of the tips I would give anyone interested in wanting to be a college athlete is to continue to look for ways to challenge yourself. Don't become complacent with comfort zones. Basketball, and all other college sports, will push you to your limits so if you're already starting to push yourself in uncomfortable ways you will be more accustomed to that feeling. It's not just on the court but anywhere else in your life as well, college sports are challenging and push your limits but I know that when I've graduated and look back I'll realize how much I've grown from all these experiences that have been thrown my way.
What has been the highlight of the summer for you?
This summer I was lucky enough to tag along with my family as they took my sister to Paris for her graduation gift. It was such an awesome experience and I love to travel so it definitely was one for the books.
What do you listen to on game day?
I listen to Shayra's mix CD that she makes every season. It's usually blasting over the speakers in the locker room so I have no choice...BUT nonetheless it's perfect for game day.
Is there a place where you love to meet teammates and friends on the BC campus?
My favorite place to hang out between class and practice would definitely be Hillside. Em (Emilee Daley) and I started this tradition of treating ourselves to an "I'm-half-way-done-with-the-week" latte.
