Women's Basketball To Play In Black Bear Thanksgiving Tournament

The Boston College women's basketball team will travel to Maine to play in the Black Bear Thanksgiving Tournament this weekend. The tournament has been altered as BC will play Brown on Friday, Nov. 28 at 3 p.m. Maine will host Brown on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 1 p.m. The Black Bears will then play Boston College on Sunday at 1 p.m. All games will be held at the Cross Center.
LAST TIME OUT
Boston College defeated Bryant University, 90-79, on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Kelly Hughes led the Eagles with 23 points and nine rebounds while freshman Katie Quandt had a career-high 16 points off the bench.
Boston College led, 47-35, at the half while shooting 54.3 percent from the floor.
The Eagles shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half and pulled away when Hughes hit three long range shots to halt any comeback by Bryant.
Game notes - BC shot 81 percent from the foul line as Hughes went 8-for-8 fron the charity stripe to lead the Eagles ... Karima Gabriel added 13 points and five rebounds in her first career start ... BC had a season-high 23 assists ... Nicole Boudreau led BC with six assists, while Hughes had five along with Lauren Engeln ... Freshman Ashley Kelsick shot 4-for-5 from the floor and finished with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.
BLACK BEAR THANKSGIVING TOURNAMENT
Boston College will open up the tournament on Friday against Brown. BC and Brown have not played since the 2003 season. The Eagles have won the last five meetings between the two games. BC defeated Brown, 73-45, in Rhode Island in 2003. It will also be the first meeting between Coach Johnson and former Eagles great Sarah Behn, who is now the head coach at Brown.
In the second game of the tournament, BC will play Maine on Sunday at 1 p.m. BC has a 5-1 edge in the overall series against Maine. The last time the two teams played was on Dec. 22, 2007. The Eagles earned a 68-56 victory. The two teams first met on Dec. 1, 1992.

TEAM NOTES
• Sophomore Kelly Hughes was named Eagle of the Week for her performance over the weekend as BC went 1-1 in California. BC lost to No. 1 Stanford on Nov. 14 but rebounded with an 82-72 victory over St. Mary's on Sunday. Hughes had 24 points, seven rebounds, six assists and went 8-for-8 from the foul line in the win.
• Boston College shot 38 three-pointers in the win over St. Mary's. The 38 three-pointers is a new program record. The most taken by a BC team was 30 against Duke on January 12, 2014.
• Junior Karima Gabriel had four blocks, a new career-high, in the win over Boston University. The program record for most blocks by an individual in a single game is seven.
• The team had nine blocks in the win over BU on Thursday and then nine more in the win over Bryant on Sunday. The program record is 10 which occurred on March 26, 2009 at St. John's. In that game, Carolyn Swords had five blocks, while Stefanie Murphy had three.
• Sophomore Kelly Hughes has scored in double-figures in 21 career games, three this season (vs. St. Mary's, BU, Bryant). Last season, Hughes hit double-figures in 18 games, including four 20+ point games.
• Coach Erik Johnson is one win away from 100 career victories as a head coach. Johnson won 72 games in four years at Denver. He is currently 27-39 at BC.
• Junior Kat Cooper notched a career-high in steals when she had four vs. St. Mary's.
• BC will host Indiana in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. It will be the first meeting between the two teams.
