
#1 WIH Sweeps UConn with 6-0 Shutout

Storrs, Conn. – No. 1 Boston College (13-0-1, 9-0-0) extended its winning streak to 11 games as the Eagles took down Connecticut, 6-0, at Freitas Ice Forum Saturday afternoon. Freshman goaltender Katie Burt recorded her fifth shutout in BC’s fourth series sweep of the season.
In the first period, junior forward Alex Carpenter was the first to strike, netting her team-leading 15th goal of the season in the 12th minute to put BC up, 1-0. Carpenter’s goal was assisted by Haley Skarupa and Kenzie Kent.
After a Lexi Bender interference penalty later in the period, the Eagles went on their first penalty kill of the day. During the kill, sophomore forward Andie Anastos got the puck at the blue line and took it up the ice to score a short-handed goal and extend BC’s lead to 2-0.
The Eagles headed into the first intermission with a two-goal lead over the Huskies.
Junior forward Haley Skarupa added another short-handed goal for Boston College eight minutes into the second frame. Senior defenseman Emily Pfalzer tallied the assist on the Eagles’ third goal.
Skarupa struck again with five minutes remaining in the middle period, assisted by Lexi Bender and Pfalzer. Skarupa’s two goals sent the Eagles into the locker room with a 4-0 lead over the Huskies after two periods.
Boston College added two more goals in the third period to close out their victory over UConn.
Junior defenseman Kaliya Johnson notched her first goal of the season on a snipe from the point to put BC up, 5-0, early in the third stanza.
Junior forward Dana Trivigno scored the Eagles’ final goal on Pfalzer’s third assist of the game. With BC's 6-0 win, the Eagles have now outscored opponents 79-14 this season.
Game Notes: The Eagles recorded a season-high 47 shots against UConn…senior defenseman Emily Pfalzer led Boston College with a plus-five rating against the Huskies…with her assist on Kaliya Johnson’s third-period goal, senior forward Emily Field is now third in the BC record books in career assists (76)…Haley Skarupa is now tied for sixth on BC’s all-time goal scoring list (60)…with her first-period goal, junior forward Alex Carpenter is on a nine-game goal-scoring streak…Katie Burt is now tied for third on the single-season shutout list with five so far in 2014-15…Boston College is two wins away from tying its longest winning streak in program history (13 games).
The No. 1 Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 25 for a 7 p.m. matchup at Yale.
