Westphal Earns All-American at NCAA Championships

Terre Haute, Ind. – Boston College women’s cross country competed in its 18th NCAA D1 Cross Country Championships Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute, Ind. Senior Liv Westphal was the first Eagle to cross the finish line, completing the 6k LaVern Gibson Course in 20:37.4. Westphal's finish time was good for 30th place overall in a field of 255 runners.
With her 20:37.4 finish, Westphal earned All-American honors for the second consecutive year. In last year's championship meet, Westphal placed 17th at 20:30.
This was the rest of the Eagle runners' first ever NCAA Championship appearance. Junior Danielle Winslow(85th, 65 team points) finished second for Boston College, clocking 21:06.9.
Junior Laura Hottenrott (21:23.0, 120th, 19 team points), senior Madeleine Davidson (21:56.8, 201st, 163 team points), and senior Brittany Winslow (22:01.6, 211th, 173 team points) rounded out the Eagles’ top five finishers at the NCAA Championships.
Freshman Ashbrook Gwinn (222nd) finished at 22:11.6 and sophomore Megan Young (236th) clocked 22:41.2.
In their first team appearance since 2012, the Eagles placed 21st of the 31 teams that competed at the Championships. Westphal earned just 22 points for the final team score of 514.
BC was ranked 30th going into today's meet and finish the season ranked 21st in the NCAA.
The top five teams were: Michigan State (85), Iowa State (147), New Mexico (188), Georgetown (189), and Arkansas (209).
