Women's Soccer Defeated By No. 4 Virginia, 6-3

Despite two goals from Hayley Dowd, Boston College women's soccer lost to No. 4 Virginia, 6-3, in an ACC match-up on Thursday night at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia. Boston College is now 8-6 overall and 1-4 in the ACC, while UVA is now 12-1 and 4-1 in the conference.
Dowd, a sophomore from Peabody, Mass., scored in the 13th and 39th minute of the game to increase her team-high of goals scored to 10. It was also her third two-goal game this season. Junior Jana Jeffrey scored the Eagles final goal in the 47th minute. It was her third goal of the year.
UVA went up 1-0 behind a goal from Alexis Shaffer in the 10th minute. BC responded as Dowd scored off a header in the 13th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Cavalier midfielder Erica Sonnett headed in a free kick from Colaprico three minutes later for a 2-1 lead. In the 27th minute, Virginia took a two goal lead on a header from McKenzy Doniak. It was her seventh goal of the season. Doniak scored a minute later to extend the Cavaliers lead to 4-1.
Boston College cut into the Virginia lead when Dowd scored off a penalty kick awarded in the 39th minute of the game. It was the 10th goal of the season.
To start the second half, BC senior goalkeeper Alexandra Johnson (four saves) entered the game. It was her first appearance on the field since she was injured against South Florida on Sept. 18. Darien Dunham played the first half and had four saves.
Two minutes into the half, Jeffrey changed the game for the Eagles when she struck for her third goal of the season. Jeffrey's shot came from 20 yards out to cut the UVA lead to just one goal, 4-3.
Virginia took a two goal lead in the 62nd minute when Danielle Colaprico scored her fourth goal of the season. Colaprico one-timed a cross from Doniak. Four minutes later, Morgan Reuther scored on a scramble in the box to give UVA a three goal lead, 6-3, with 25 minutes remaining in the match.
Dowd led the BC offense as she had three of the six shots in the game.
