Women's Soccer Falls To Duke, 2-1, OT

The Boston College women's soccer team lost to Duke, 2-1, in overtime on Sunday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium in an ACC matchup.
The Eagles are currently 10-8 overall and 3-6 in the ACC. Duke is 8-8-1 and 4-4-1 in the conference
Boston College scored in the 25th minute of the game. Sophomore Hayley Dowd beat a Duke defender to a long ball. Her first shot was saved by the Blue Devils goalkeeper Ali Kershner. Off the rebound Dowd sent her second shot towards the goal mouth and it deflected off a Duke defender into the goal for a 1-0 BC lead.
BC had a great chance when Stephanie McCaffrey sent Dowd towards the goal. Kershner came out to cut the angle down on Dowd, and her shot hit the far post in the 55th minute of the game.
The Blue Devils evened the game up in the 58th minute on a goal by Kelly Cobb. Cobb raced down a ball on the end line and cut it back. She ripped a shot from the right of BC goalkeeper Alexandra Johnson into the far post to tie the match, 1-1. It was her fifth goal of the season.
Duke won the game just one minute into the match off a corner kick. Ashton Miller took the corner kick to the left of Johnson. Toni Payne one-timed the shot into the near post for the win.
The two teams had 16 shots apiece in the game, while BC had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Dowd led the Eagles offense with six shots while McCaffrey had four. Alex Johnson had two saves in the match and is now 9-3 on the season. Kershner had five saves and improved to 8-6-1.
Game Notes
The women's soccer program will honor the senior class - Emily Hoffend, Alexandra Johnson and Stephanie McCaffrey - prior to the final regular season game on Saturday, Nov. 1 vs. Notre Dame (7 p.m.). The ceremony will begin 15 minutes prior to the start of the game ... Stephanie McCaffrey became only the fourth BC player to reach 90 career points when she notched an assist vs. Wake Forest. McCaffrey is now fourth on the all-time point list behind Victoria DiMartino '13 (93 points), Sarah Rahko '03 (94 points) and former teammate Kristie Mewis '13 (116 points) ... Hayley Dowd has five game-winning goals this season. She is only the sixth player in program history to record five game-winning goals. The record is nine, which was set last season by McKenzie Meehan ... Freshmen Allyson Swaby and Madison Kenny have played in every game this season. Swaby has earned 18 starts, while Kenny has 17 ...
