No. 8 Field Hockey Takes on No. 16 WFU Friday

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The No. 8 Boston College Eagles are set to take on No. 16 Wake Forest University at the Newton Sports Complex on Friday, Oct. 3 for their third Atlantic Coast Conference contest of the season. BC is 1-1 in ACC play, defeating Syracuse on the road and dropping a game to No. 1 North Carolina at home. Both games were decided in overtime.
Team Records
Boston College remains in the top ten this week after a hotly contested matchup against the top-ranked Tarheels and a 4-1 victory over the New Hampshire Wildcats last weekend. The Eagles have moved to 8-2 on the season and look to continue their strong 3-1 record at home.
The Demon Deacons own a 0-2 ACC record four weeks into the season, falling to Duke and dropping an overtime contest to Louisville. No. 16 WFU has defeated several quality non-conference opponents including Big Ten powerhouses No. 11 Northwestern University and No. 15 Michigan.
Notable ACC Statistics
The Eagles lead the ACC in saves (64), saves per game (6.40), and save percentage (.790) behind strong BC defense and junior goalkeeper Leah Settipane.
Wake Forest is sixth in the ACC in goals scored per game (2.27) and second in shutouts with four.
Team Leaders
Sophomore forward Brittany Sheenan leads the Eagles with 14 points on seven goals. Sheenan is tied for second in the ACC in game-winning goals (3). Senior midfielder Emma Plasteras is second on the squad with 12 points on three goals and six assists. Both Emily (5g, 0a) and Eryn McCoy (4g, 2a) have ten points each.
Senior midfielder/back Anna Kozniuk leads the Demon Deacons with 17 points on eight goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Jess Newak is second on the team with 11 points on four goals and three assists.
BC vs. WFU History
Last season, the Demon Deacons beat Boston College in Winston-Salem, N.C., 3-1. The Wake Forest attack came out strong, forcing the Eagles into a 3-0 hole. BC scored their lone goal in the 66th minute of play.
Wake Forest leads the all-time series against Boston College, 14-3. WFU has won five of the last six meetings between the two teams. The Eagles' three victories came in 1997, 2010, and 2012.
Other
Associate head coach Kelly Doton played field hockey at Wake Forest from 2000-2003. Doton helped the Demon Deacons to back-to-back NCAA Championships (`02 & `03) and will be inducted into the WFU Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 17.
Oct. 3 is the Eagles' annual `Stick it To Cancer' game to raise awareness about the disease and help support the fight against cancer through donations to benefit the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
No. 8 Boston College and No. 16 Wake Forest will face off at 4 p.m. on Friday.
