Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
The Boston College women's soccer team has announced the 2013 schedule. The Eagles are set to play 19 games, 10 on the Newton Soccer Field at Newton Campus.
Of the 19 teams Boston College will play this season, 12 made the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and nine were ranked in the NSCAA Final Top 25 poll, while five were ranked in the Top 10. The Eagles are also scheduled to play three of the four teams which competed in the 2012 College Cup - North Carolina, Florida State and Stanford.
All soccer fans should take notice of the Eagles schedule this season as the competition toughens with the addition of Notre Dame, Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the ACC.
BC opens up the 2013 season with a three-game home stand. The Eagles start with a bang as they host cross-country rival Stanford on Friday, August 23 at 7 p.m. The Cardinal finished ranked third in the country in the final NSCAA poll in Dec. 2012. This will be the seventh game between the two teams as Stanford holds a 4-0-2 edge. Last season, the two teams played to a 1-1 overtime draw at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium on the campus of Stanford University on August 31.
BC will then host Boston University on Sunday, August 25 at 3 p.m. followed by former Big East foe Connecticut on Wednesday, August 28 at 7 p.m.
There is no rest for the weary as the Eagles will then head to New York and play Hofstra on Sunday, Sept. 1. Ohio State will visit the Newton Campus as the Buckeyes and Eagles will play on Thursday, Sept. 5 (7 p.m.). BC will follow that up with a tough two-game ACC road trip at Pittsburgh on Thursday, Sept. 12 and at Clemson on Sunday, Sept. 15.
A three-game home stand is perfectly timed as the Eagles will host Virginia on Thursday, Sept. 19 (7 p.m.), Virginia Tech on Sunday, Sept. 22 (1 p.m.) and Wake Forest on Thursday, Sept. 26 (7 p.m.). All three teams were NCAA Tournament teams in the 2012 season.
BC will then hit the road for two games. BC will be at NC State on Sunday, Sept. 29 (1 p.m.) and then at Florida State on Thursday, Oct. 3 (7 p.m.). The Eagles return home for two games against two more ACC rivals Duke on Sunday, Oct. 6 (1 p.m.) and reigning national champs North Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 13 (1 p.m.). Florida State, Duke and UNC all made the 2012 tournament while the Seminoles and Tar Heels were in the College Cup.
A tough part of the Eagles schedule follows as BC will head to Central Conn. State University on October 16 (7 p.m.), then Miami on October 20 (1 p.m.) only to head out to Notre Dame on Thursday, Oct. 24. The final leg of the four-game road trip will be at Maryland on Sunday, October 27 (1 p.m.). Again, Miami, Notre Dame and Maryland all made the 2012 tournament last season.
The Eagles will finish out the regular season on Thursday, October 31 against Syracuse (4 p.m.).
The ACC Tournament will begin on Sunday, Nov. 3 at the higher seeded teams. The remaining teams will advance to WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. for the ACC semifinals on November 8 and the championship match on November 10.
