Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Six members of the Boston College field hockey team were named to the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, announced on Tuesday morning.
Freshmen Kelcie Hromisin and AshLeigh Sebia, sophomore Katlyn Soucy, and juniors Hannah Mulvey, Virgynia Muma and Nicole Schuster earned the honor, awarded to those who have obtained a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2012-2013 academic year.
On Monday, the Eagles were recognized by the NFHCA for its academic achievement as a team as one of the Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award, given to the top programs earning a 3.0 grade point average or above.
"The NFHCA Academic Team Award is a testament to how hard our players have worked for academic excellence here at Boston College," head coach Ainslee Lamb said." The recognition goes to our players who put forth their maximum effort both in the classroom and on the field. Our six players who were named to the academic squad have led by example and I couldn't be more proud of their achievement. They truly stand for what it means to be a student-athlete at Boston College."
Mulvey is a three-time NFHCA Academic Squad honoree, while Muma and Schuster earned the accolade for the second time. Muma was also named to the 2012 All-ACC Academic team earlier in the year.
