Boston College is now 1-2 on the season. The Eagles are coming off a, 70-69, overtime loss at BYU. The Eagles tied the game on a jumper by junior Lauren Engeln to push the game into the extra stanza. In overtime, BC missed its first three shots but took a 61-60 lead on foul shots by Katie Zenevitch. BYU scored on an old fashion three-point play with 20 seconds to play which gave the Cougars a four point lead. A three-pointer by Doherty cut the lead to one with two seconds to play but the Eagles could not steal the inbounds pass.
BC opened up the 2013 campaign with an, 83-71, loss to No. 3/3 Stanford on Nov. 6. BC bounced back on Tuesday, Nov. 12 with a road victory at Hofstra, 83-60. The Eagles had five players in double-figures, including freshman Kelly Hughes, who led all scorers with 19 points. Senior Kristen Doherty continues to fill the stat sheet as she finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, five steals and three assists.
BC vs. FIU
• This will be the third meeting between BC (1-2) and FIU (3-0). This will be the second time the two teams have played at Conte Forum.
• In 2001 the two teams met in the Sun & Fun Classic hosted by FIU. Boston College won the Classic Championship with a, 79-70, victory over FIU behind 21 points from Brianne Stepherson and 19 points and nine rebounds from Nicole Conway.
• In the 2008 season, Carolyn Swords had 19 points and 11 rebounds while Mickel Picco added 23 points to lead BC to a, 93-65, victory over FIU.

IT'S ALL NEW TO ME
• There were a number of players donning a uniform for the first time this season. Junior Lauren Engeln, a native of Laguna Hills, Calif., transferred to Boston College in the summer of 2012 after playing two seasons at UConn. She played in 55 games and averaged 1.4 points per game while playing for the Huskies. Engeln was just looking for a chance to play more minutes. She started, played 36 minutes and finished with 10 points and three assists vs. Stanford in the season opener. Engeln continued to shine as she had 14 points and four assists in the win over Hofstra. In her third start of the season, Engeln hit the game-tying jumper to put the game into OT vs. BYU. She leads the ACC in minutes played and is 13th in assists, despite playing out of position.
• Freshman Kelly Hughes arrived at the Heights with a bit of hype after scoring over 2,500 points in high school. Hughes, whose brother Kieran is a BC practice player, has a twin sister Lauren, who is a freshman at Lafayette College. After only playing one minute vs. Stanford in the season opener, Hughes broke out and shot 6-for-11 from floor and finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. Against BYU, Hughes had 11 points and seven rebounds. She is averaging 10 points and five rebounds a game for the Eagles.
• Emilee Daley, a native of Sharon, Mass., is another freshman expected to gain more playing time as the season goes. She has played in all three games and averaging 4.7 minutes a game. Like Daley, Kami Mickens, a native of Texas, will gain more time in the next couple of weeks. At 5-foot-5, Mickens has created havoc during practice with her relentless defensive play. Mickens is expected to help put pressure on opponents' offensives with her quickness and explosive play.

• BC returns three starters from last year's team - Kristen Doherty, Katie Zenevitch and Nicole Boudreau.
• Kristen Doherty is just three points from reaching1,000 career points. Doherty reached the 500 career rebound mark in the overtime loss to BYU. She had 12 boards in the game. Freshman guard Kelley Hughes broke out and scored 19 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the floor and a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe in the Eagles win over Hofstra on Tuesday night.
• Senior Katie Zenevitch grabbed three boards in the loss to Stanford on Saturday. The Eagles forward now has 509 career rebounds. The last time BC opened the season against a ranked team was in the 1996-97 when the Eagles lost to then 5th-ranked UConn at the FleetCenter in Boston.
• BC is 11-2 in season openers since the 2000 season. BC's two losses are against Harvard in 2010 and Stanford this season.
