No. 6 Field Hockey Travels to Virginia

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The sixth-ranked Boston College field hockey team heads to Charlottesville, Va., to take on fifth-ranked Virginia on Friday evening and then play a non-conference game against Longwood on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles look to improve on their 10-2 overall record and 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference tally.

BC is coming off a big weekend, as the Eagles moved up three spots in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll after defeating No. 20 New Hampshire, 3-1, and second-ranked Connecticut, 4-3, in overtime. The game against the Huskies, who were previously unbeaten, marked the second time the Eagles beat a higher-ranked team that was undefeated as they earned a 6-3 victory at home against then-No. 5 Syracuse on Sept. 20.

The Maroon and Gold matched last year's win total and recorded the 14th consecutive double-digit win season, spanning head coach Ainslee Lamb's entire career at the Heights.

The Cavaliers (13-2, 1-2 ACC) hold the advantage against the Eagles in the all-time series, 9-5. They have won the five of the last six meetings, including last year's. BC took a 5-4, double overtime victory in Charlottesville in 2011. Last year, UVA jumped out to a three-goal lead before current senior Chapin Duke scored BC's lone goal in the 63rd minute. Current senior Hadley Bell had two goals for the Cavs.

Virginia enters the contest after a 1-1 weekend. On Saturday, the Cavs fell to then-No. 5 Syracuse, 4-1, before beating Albany, 4-1, on Sunday. In the ACC, they tallied a win over Wake Forest, 3-0, and a loss to North Carolina, 2-1.

The Eagles met the Lancers (5-8) for the first time last season and came away with a 3-1 win in Farmville, Va. After Longwood took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute, BC scored three straight to pull away with the win. Duke tallied the equalizer in the 15th minute, while senior Paige Norris scored before the half on a penalty stroke and classmate Virgynia Muma put the game away with a score off a corner in the 42nd minute.

The Lancers are coming off a 4-2 loss to Liberty on Wednesday. They won their previous two games against Davidson, 3-1, and VCU, 2-1.
