Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season with Brown Invitational

The women's tennis team opened the fall season strong with a 16-8 singles record and a mark of 9-6 in doubles at the Brown Invitational from Friday to Sunday.
The three-day event took place at Brown University in Providence, R.I. with student-athletes from BC, Binghmaton, Boston University, Brown, Providence, and Rutgers competing.
Sophomore Jessica Wacnik won the top singles flight, the Black Draw, with three consecutive victories. The Orland Park, Ill. native won 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 over Vanessa Petrini of Rutgers in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-1 over Jessica Harrow of Brown in the semifinals, and 6-1, 6-3 over Misia Krasowski of Brown in the finals.
"We all worked very hard up until this season opener, and I felt that we went in well prepared," Wacnik said. "During matches, I found it helpful to remind myself how hard we worked to get ready and used that as one of my motivators to give my best."
"It was an awesome way to kick off this season for me individually, and as a team," Wacnik said. "I hope we can keep up the success and hard work for the rest of our fall season."
Freshman Julia Casselbury and senior Kelly Barry each won three consecutive matches in singles play as well.
Next up for head coach Nigel Bentley and the Eagles is the ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. from Sept. 29 to Oct. 7.
