No. 22 Field Hockey Defeats Providence, 3-2

Providence, R.I. - The 22nd-ranked Boston College field hockey team tallied its fifth win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Providence on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles (5-5) evened out their record on the Friars' (5-3) home field.
"This was a great regional win for the team," head coach Ainslee Lamb said. "The entire team contributed to the performance and ultimately the win. As always, Providence played hard until the very end and I felt our players did a good job of maintaining their composure and level of play throughout the game. We did a better job of creating threatening opportunities in the attacking circle and working hard to provide scoring chances."
Junior Chapin Duke scored the first goal of the day in the 14th minute on a corner attempt. She tipped the ball passed PC goalkeeper Kathi Weidman to put the Eagles on top. Senior captain Jacqui Moorfield tallied the assist to bring her point total to a team-leading nine points.
Junior Virgynia Muma gave BC a two-goal advantage just one minute later as she one-timed the ball in front of the net off a pass from sophomore Katlyn Soucy. The score marked Muma's fourth of the season, which leads the Eagles.
Just four minutes into the second half, Steph Guglielmo cut the Eagles' lead to one with a shot from the left side of the circle on a penalty corner.
BC notched an insurance goal in the 55th minute of action as Moorfield took a straight shot off a corner to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead.
PC scored in the 62nd minute, as Hillary Anderson scored on a tip in, but the Eagles held on to take the win.
Freshman goalie Leah Settipane made two saves on the day. BC outshot PC, 16-5, including a 12-2 advantage in the second half. The Eagles also took 10 corners to the Friars' three.
The Maroon and Gold travel to Durham, N.C., on Friday, Sept. 28 to take on No. 19 Duke at 6 p.m.
