Women's Soccer Picked Sixth in the ACC Poll

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The 2012 Boston College Women's Soccer team was picked to finish sixth in the high-competitive Atlantic Coast Conference by the 11 conference coaches in a preseason poll, according to an announcement by the ACC office today.
Boston College was recently ranked 11th in the 2011 NSCAA preseason poll. The ACC saw a total of seven teams listed among the top 15 of the NSCAA Poll - Duke (2), Wake Forest (3) , Florida State (4), UVA (7), UNC (8), Maryland (13) and Virginia Tech earned the 22nd spot.
Duke earned the top spot in the ACC followed by Wake Forest, Florida State and North Carolina. Virginia earned the fifth spot followed by BC at six. Maryland (7), Virginia Tech (8), Miami (9), NC State (10) and Clemson (11) are the final five spots in the ACC poll.
The Eagles return seven starters and from the 2011 squad that went 12-6-3 overall and 6-4-0 in the ACC. Nine freshmen will join BC in its quest to capture the ACC title and make its 10th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The 2012 lineup features senior All-American Kristie Mewis, senior scoring threat Victoria DiMartino and junior captain Gibby Wagner. The Eagles also return midfielders Kate McCarthy, Patrice Vettori along with defenders Zoe Lombard and All-Rookie selection Casey Morrison.
Boston College will scrimmage UMass this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. at the Newton Soccer Complex. The Eagles will open up the season Friday, August 17 at 7 p.m. against former Big East foe Providence. All regular season home games have free admission.
