Gajic and Muppidi Named to All-ACC Academic Team

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College tennis players seniors Akash Muppidi and Katarina Gajic were named to the 2012 All-ACC Academic Teams, announced by Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner John Swofford. To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a career GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Muppidi, a recent graduate who majored in finance in the Carroll School of Management, earned All-ACC Academic Team all four years at The Heights. He consistently played in the No. 1 singles and doubles position for the Eagles. He and partner senior Alex Skinner finished the season ranked 43rd in the nation and first in the Northeast. The Trumbull, Conn., native is BC's first and only All-ACC selection, earning the honor for three consecutive years. He was also named ITA Northeast Region Senior of the Year.

Gajic receives her second All-ACC Academic accolade after receiving the honor last year. A graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences with a bachelor's degree in economics, she earned the ACC's Postgraduate Weaver-James-Corrigan Award. She is a four-time recipient of BC's Athletics Director's Award for Academic Achievement and a three-time member of the ACC's academic honor roll. She was also named the Boston College junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Toronto, Ontario, native finished her career with 102 wins, including 63-57 singles record. In 2012, she stepped into the No. 3 position after an injury sidelined a teammate and she was the first Eagle in many years to earn an automatic bid to the ITA All-America Championship in October 2011.

Georgia Tech seniors Jillian O'Neill and Kevin King were named the ACC Women's and Men's Tennis Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
