Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team announced its 2012 schedule. The BC schedule features seven head-to-head matchups versus teams that reached the 2011 NCAA Tournament and six games against teams in the top 10 of the final 2011 NFCHA Coaches Poll.
The Eagles will kick off the 2012 campaign in Maine with a two-game set. They will play Michigan State on Friday, August 24 and Maine the following day. Both games start at 1 p.m.
BC then travels to Connecticut as the Eagles will play at Quinnipiac on Friday, August 31 at 3:30 p.m.
BC will then have a two-game home stand against in-state rivals Massachusetts on Sunday, Sept. 2 (3 p.m.) and Boston University on Friday, Sept. 7 (7 p.m.). The game against BU will also be the annual Multiple Sclerosis Game, in which the Eagles raise money to help find the cure for the disease. This campaign started six years ago when former BC player Kathleen Murphy was diagnosed with MS her junior year at the Heights.
After a road game at Harvard on Sept. 9, Boston College will get the ACC schedule underway as the Eagles will travel to Maryland to play the reigning National Champion Terrapins on Friday, Sept. 14. The Eagles lost to the then No. 3 Terps last year, 4-3, in overtime at the Newton Complex. Maryland won the national title with a win over ACC-foe North Carolina last November.
BC will then host Virginia on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. and then hit the road for three straight games. The Eagles will play at Providence on Sunday, Sept. 23, another NCAA Tournament team, Duke on Friday, Sept. 28 and at Longwood on Sunday, Sept. 30.
The Eagles host four schools - UNC, Northeastern, New Hampshire and Connecticut - to start the month of October. All four opponents reached the NCAA Tournament last season. BC will host the Tar Heels on Oct. 6, which will also be High School Appreciation Day. The following Friday, Oct. 12, the Eagles will host crosstown-rival Northeastern followed by UNH on Sunday, Oct. 14. The final game in the home stand will be a heated battle against Connecticut on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.
After heading to New York to play another NCAA Tournament team in Syracuse on Sunday, Oct. 21, BC will host ACC rival Wake Forest on Friday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. That game the team will honor the senior class.
The ACC Tournament begins on Nov. 1 in Chapel Hill, N.C. The NCAA Tournament is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Nov. 10 with the final held on Sunday, Nov. 18 at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
