Tallahassee, Fla. - A seven-run fifth inning ended game one between the Boston College softball team and No. 22 Florida State on Saturday morning at JoAnne Graf Field. The Eagles fell in the initial meeting, 12-4, and took game two into the fifth tied at zero, before the game was suspended due to hazardous weather.
Nicole D'Argento (9-11) threw 4.2 innings in the loss. The Ashland, Mass. native struck out five, walked seven and allowed 12 earned runs on 10 hits.
M. Perry (19-5) picked up the win with one strike out, a walk and three earned runs on five hits in all five innings for the Seminoles (40-11, 13-3 ACC).
Senior Ali Lynette-Krech put the Eagles (20-20, 2-11 ACC) up with a two-run double in the top of the first. Delagrammaticas singled to center and Filler was hit by a pitch to put runners on. Wilkins grounded out to short, before the captain knocked a 1-2 pitch to right field.
Florida State responded with three runs in the bottom of the first, 3-2. S. Jackson drew a walk and hustled around on M. O'Brien's double to center field, 2-1. B. Hamilton drew a walk, before O'Brien tied the game on a hard-hit ball to short, 2-2. A single up the middle by C. Senas brought in the go ahead run.
FSU added two runs in the second, 5-2. E. Leonard drew a leadoff walk and took second on a passed ball. T. Brown then singled to the pitcher. Delagrammaticas tagged the lead runner on the next play, but a single sandwiched by two walks brought two Seminoles across home plate.
Boston College closed the gap to one in the fourth, 5-4. Chelsea LoBue opened the inning with a single down the left field line and was subbed out for Alanna DiMaso. Tory Speer drew a walk and a passed ball put two Eagles in scoring position. CJ Chrichigno executed a sac bunt to plate DiMaso, 5-3, and advance Speer to third, before touching home on D'Argento's single through the left side.
A seven-run fifth inning ended the game in favor of Florida State, 12-4. The Eagles retired the first two batters, before Gomez doubled to center and Leonard drew a walk. Hensley's single through the right side plated a run, 6-4, and left runners on the corners for FSU. Brown had a bunt single to load the bases and Jackson tallied an RBI, 7-4, with an eight-pitch walk. O'Brien cleared the bases on a double to the gap in right center and Hamilton followed with a 1-0 walk off home run to left field.
Game two was suspended with one out in the top of the fifth. Neither side had scored when inclement weather halted play. The game will resume at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
