GREENSBORO, N.C. - Three members of the Boston College lacrosse team have been named to the 2012 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team, according to an announcement made by the league on Thursday. Graduate student Kristin Igoe, freshman Mikaela Rix and freshman Covie Stanwick all represent BC on the 18-member squad, as determined by a vote of the ACC's six head coaches.
This marks the first time that Boston College has had three all-conference selections since joining the ACC in 2006.
"This is a great honor for our program and for our student-athletes," head coach Bowen Holden said. "These three have done a lot for us this year and their success is certainly strengthened by the team around them.
Igoe made BC and ACC history by earning the accolade for her fourth-consecutive year. Igoe and Maryland's Karri Ellen Johnson are the conference's first ever four-time honorees. The Framingham, Mass., native currently leads the Eagles with 42 goals and 53 points, and is just four goals shy of becoming the school's all-time leading goal scorer.
Rix and Stanwick are the only two rookies on this year's All-ACC Team, in addition to being the first freshmen in BC history to earn all-conference recognition. Stanwick has posted a team-high 23 assists so far this season to top the school's freshmen record list. Rix is second on the team with 36 goals in 2012.
In addition to Boston College, Duke also earned three All-ACC honorees this year. North Carolina led the conference with five selections, while Maryland had four. Virginia and Virginia Tech rounded out the list of all-conference performers, as UVa had two and VA Tech had one.
Fifth-seeded Boston College will square off against fourth-seeded Virginia on Friday at noon.
