Women's Basketball Falls To Wake Forest, 73-60

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Katie Zenevitch registered a double-double, as Boston College (5-18, 0-10) fell, 73-60, to Wake Forest (13-10, 3-7) on Sunday afternoon.
Zenevitch tallied 20 points and 10 boards in the outing. Freshman Joy Caracciolo and redshirt sophomore Tessah Holt added to the offensive effort with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Demon Deacons were able to get on the board first, but the Eagles used an 8-0 run to take an early 8-2 lead with 15 minutes left in the first. Wake retaliated with five consecutive points to pull within one, and Chelsea Douglas scored seven straight of her own to give Wake the lead, up 16-10 with just over 12 minutes left in the half.
Caracciolo tallied a bucket from the paint for the Eagles, but WF continued to control the pace of play, taking a 19-12 lead with 11:08 to go. The Demon Deacons outscored the Eagles, 11-6, over the course of the next five minutes to take a double-digit lead, up 30-18, with 6:39 to play. Caracciolo, freshman Kat Cooper and sophomore Kristen Doherty scored for BC in the final minutes of the half, but Wake continued to extend its buffer, taking a 44-26 lead into halftime.
Caracciolo hit a layup from down low to spark a 5-0 run by the Eagles to start the second half, making it a 44-31 Wake advantage with just over 17 minutes to play. Zenevitch followed with a layup and a long jumper to make it a 51-37 game with just over 14 minutes left. Sandra Garcia nailed back-to-back layups to give Wake a 20-point advantage, up 57-37 with less than 13 minutes to go.
Zenevitch hit a jumper to spark a 14-4 run that put the Eagles within single-digits of the Demon Deacons for the first time since early in the first half, down just 59-51 with less than nine minutes to play. Garcia helped Wake extend its lead back to 10, up 63-53 with 6:33 to go. The teams traded baskets in the final minutes of the half, but WF was able to maintain its advantage to seal the 73-60 victory.
