Women's Tennis Takes Part in the USTA Invitational

Four members of the Boston College women's tennis team went 8-5 in singles play and 3-3 in doubles action at the USTA BJK NTC Women's College Invitational held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, N.Y. from Saturday to Monday.
Freshman Katya Vasilyev won three straight matches in singles competition to reach the finals of Draw D before falling to Elisha Hande of N.C. State 6-4, 6-3. Vasilyev and classmate Heini Salonen went 1-2 in doubles play.
Salonen and fellow freshman Julia Casselbury each finished the invitational with 1-2 records in singles play while Casselbury and senior Kelly Barry went 2-1 as a doubles tandem. Barry ended the event at 1-2 in singles play.
Head coach Nigel Bentley and the Eagles next take to the court in the Northeast Regional Champonships from Oct. 19 to Oct. 23 in West Point, N.Y.
