No. 10 Field Hockey Squares Off Against No. 11 BU

After a three-game home stand, the Boston College field hockey squad takes the short trip across town to square off against rival Boston University this Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. The game will be held at Harvard University's Jordan Field.

Boston College Notes
• The Eagles head into this weekend's game with a 4-1 overall record so far in 2011.
• The squad collected a decisive, 6-1 victory against Quinnipiac on Sept. 2, before blanking Holy Cross, 6-0, on Sept. 4.
• Boston College currently leads the ACC in nine out of 16 team stats categories, including goals scored, scoring margin, assists and forced penalty corners.
• As a team, BC has outshot its opponents, 119-35, and forced more corners, 49-16.
• The Eagles have made the most of their opportunities during penalty corners in 2011, with 10 of the team's 25 goals coming in that fashion.
• BC has been unstoppable after scoring first, as the squad holds a 3-0 record when it strikes first.
• Senior Carla Tamer has tallied a team- and ACC-best 13 total points through five games.
• Sophomore Chapin Duke currently leads the Eagles and the entire ACC in goals (6), and is tied for second in the conference with 12 points.
• Sophomore Paige Norris has become an important play maker for the Eagles, as she leads the team and the conference in assists with six.
• Adding to the offensive threat for BC are senior Courtney Tavener and grad student Maike de Jager. Tavener has recorded four goals and three assists, for 11 points, while de Jager has three goals on the season.
• Sophomore Virgynia Muma recorded the first goal of her collegiate career on Sept. 4 against Holy Cross.
Scouting Boston University
• BU enters Friday's matchup with a 3-1 record in 2011.
• Last weekend, the Terriers collected a pair of wins, first beating Providence, 5-1, on Sept. 2, before defeating No. 13 Michigan State on Sept. 4.
• On Tuesday, BU jumped eight spots to No. 11 in the national poll, matching the program's highest ranking in the history of the NFHCA coaches' poll. Last season, the Terriers also reached No. 11 in the poll after getting off to the best start in school history.
• As a team, BU has outshot its opponents, 64-27, so far this season.
• Macey Gaumond and Jacinda McLeod lead the Terriers offensive effort with eight points apiece. Gaumond currently has a team-best four goals on the season, while McLeod has three goals and two assists.
Series History
• The all-time series between the Eagles and the Terriers is tied, 11-11. If Boston College wins on Friday, it would mark just the second time the Eagles have led the series between the two schools.
• The Eagles last pulled ahead in the series in 2009, with a 4-3 overtime victory, however BU knotted the all-time record in 2010, when the Terriers earned a 2-0 win.
