CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team has improved in the national polls for the third consecutive week. This week, the Eagles jumped from No. 8 to No. 6 in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, according to an announcement made Tuesday. This week's poll results mark the highest ranking for BC since October 2006.
The Eagles' two-spot bump comes after a pair of games against nationally ranked opponents last weekend. BC defeated No. 4 Connecticut, 3-1, on Sept. 18 to extend the squad's 2011 road unbeaten streak to three games. Prior to the win at UConn, the Eagles took No. 3 Maryland into overtime on Sept. 16, but lost the hard-fought battle, 4-3.
Four of the six ACC field hockey programs are nationally ranked, with North Carolina at No. 2 and Maryland at No. 3. Duke currently sits behind BC at No. 9, while Virginia dropped out of the polls this week.
Next Up: Boston College hits the road this weekend for one conference and one non-conference matchup. The Eagles will take on Virginia at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 before traveling to American on Sunday, Sept. 25 for a 1 p.m. tilt.
