CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior back Jacqui Moorfield was named Co-Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week for week three of the 2011 season, according to an announcement made by the conference on Tuesday.
"This is a fantastic accolade for Jax to be recognized with," Head Coach Ainslee Lamb said. "Her impact is felt daily here at BC with her training and commitment to the team. It is great for her to be honored among the best in the country. This is a well deserved award."
Boston College defeated Boston University, 1-0, Friday night on the strength of Moorfield's goal in the third minute. Senior Courtney Tavener inserted the ball to sophomore Paige Norris, whose clean stick-stop allowed Moorfield to send a hard drive past the BU goalkeeper. A strong defensive effort from the Eagles throughout the rest of the game made the lone goal all that was needed and gave Boston College its first win over a ranked opponent in 2011.
Moorfield, a co-captain, has started all six games for the Eagles this season. She is tied for second on the team in assists (4) and has a current point streak of four games (Aug. 30-Sept. 9).
This week's recognition marks the first of its kind for the Christchurch, New Zealand native.
Moofield and the entire Eagles' squad return to action on Friday, Sept. 16, when they host No. 3 Maryland at 6 p.m. in the team's first ACC matchup of the 2011 season.
