Field Hockey Newcomer Earns Preseason Recognition

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Graduate Student Maike de Jager was named to the 2011 Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Squad, according to an announcement made by the conference today.
"I am thrilled for Maike to be recognized by the ACC coaches," Head Coach Ainslee Lamb said. "Maike will impact the BC program and promote the level play within the ACC. She is a fantastic ambassador for our team."
In 2011, de Jager's first season with BC, she will play an important role for the Eagles as an anchor in the midfield.
"Maike's elite skill and knowledge of the game give [BC] a real edge. Having someone with her experience and composure driving the midfield will make us a formidable team in the ACC," Lamb said.
The Amsterdam, Netherlands native comes to BC with experience at the national level. She has played with the U16, U18 and U21 Dutch National Teams. In 2010-11, de Jager competed with the Hic Club Team in the Netherlands.
Boston College plays its season opener on the road this Friday, August 26 against Vermont at 1 p.m.
