Durham, N.C. - The Boston College track and field teams advanced four athletes in two events and posted six ECAC/IC4A qualifying marks as a cold downpour slammed the ACC Championship at Duke University's Wallace Wade Stadium on Friday, April 22.
Jillian King registered the top qualifying time in the 1,500-meter run, winning heat three in 4:28.90. Running in the same section, Siobhan Breagy posted a personal record of 4:28.90 to secure a spot in the final with the field 10th best time.
Caroline King turned in the fastest qualifying mark in the 800 meter race, taking command of heat one on the final turn, before finishing in 2:05.81. Caitlin Bailey controlled her half mile from the first straight away, building a lead of several strides to win heat four in 2:10.61 and advance to tomorrow's final.
The Eagles narrowly missed scoring in both 3,000-meter steeplechases. In the men's race, Jordan Hamm submitted a personal record 9:09.41 clip, the eighth fastest time in BC history, for ninth place. For the women, Bridget Dahlberg set a personal best of10:46.94, the fifth fastest on BC's all-time list, taking 10th overall.
Louis Serafini was timed at 3:53.68 to lead the men's side in the 1,500 meters. The sophomore's mark was the seventh fastest time of the qualifying round, but the Eagle did not advance because he did not finish in the top three of his heat or have one of the three next fastest times of the remaining contenders.
On day one, Elizabeth O'Brien nearly scored for the Eagles in the 10,000-meter race. The Chappaqua, N.Y. native took ninth overall with a 35:56.87 clip.
The ACC Championship will resume Saturday, April 23 at noon. Fans are invited to follow live results or view the live broadcast beginning at 4 p.m.
