Tennis Defeats BU, 5-1

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - ITA ranked No. 51 Boston College defeated Boston University, 5-1, on Tuesday afternoon at the Flynn Recreation Complex, marking the Eagles' (8-12, 2-7 ACC) second straight win over the rival Terriers (10-8).
"Beating your cross town rival is always nice," Head Coach Nigel Bentley stated. "Heading into our meeting with BU, we had a really tough stretch against some of the best teams in the country. Six of our last seven opponents were ranked 12th-or-higher. We were competitive in those matches and I thought we continued to play well today. It was a great win and I hope this gives us the confidence we need heading into the final weekend of conference play before the ACC Tournament."
Due to threat of rain, the match began with singles play.
Sophomore Olga Khmylev got BC rolling with a win at No. 6 singles. The Buffalo, N.Y. native topped Vanessa Steiner, 6-2, 6-0, in under an hour to put the Eagles up, 1-0.
Junior Erina Kikuchi followed moments later, defeating Amelia Martinez, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 singles for the two point lead.
BU earned its point with a tightly contest win over Eagles No. 1 singles player sophomore Alex Kelleher, 6-4, 6-3.
Freshman Veronica Corning put the Eagles back on pace, topping Jessica Linero, 6-1, 6-3, on court four.
Bumped up to No. 5 singles, senior Katharine Attwell clinched the match for Boston College. At The captain downed Amelia Martinez, 6-3, 6-2, for the 97th win of her career.
Rounding out singles play, 113th ranked Katarina Gajic emerged from a first set loss, 7-6 (5), with wins in the second and third set, 6-0, 1-0(2), to bring the final team total to 5-1.
With the outcome decided, doubles play was omitted.
Boston College will wrap-up its regular season on road against No. 54 Wake Forest and No. 33 NC State from April 16-17.
