BOSTON - In their final indoor collegiate meet, seniors Mathew Kosmas and Ian Thomas crushed personal records in the weight throw and 1,000-meter, respectively, for a pair of top-10 mark in school history tally 10 points for the Boston College men's track and field team at the IC4A Indoor Championship.
Thomas kicked off the meet with the top 1,000-meter qualifying time, 2:23.58, before returning to take third in the finals at 2:24.77 and score six points for the Eagles. The qualifier from the Medway, Mass. native is the swiftest performance from a BC athlete in six years and stands at the school's fourth fastest. Only Eagles legend Keith Francis 1975 time of 2:22.4, Brian Murphy's 2:23.29 in 1992 and Tom Horton's 2:23.3 in 1980 have the edge on Thomas.
Kosmas also came out ablaze, hurling the 35-pound weight 18.18 meters (59-7.75 ft.) on his opening throw to place fifth and score four points. The Novato, Calif. product claimed sole possession of 10th place on the all-time BC list, surpassing Frank McQuade's toss of 18.03 meters (59-2.0 ft.) set back in 1971.
The 4x400-meter relay also got in on the historical action, turning in a time of 3:18.20, the sixth-fastest all-time and quickest since a 1996 mark of 3:17.76. Senior Tyler Archer and freshmen Joseph Stuart, Kellen MacDonald and Jack Hennessy composed crew that ran the sixth-ever sub-3:19.00 time for Boston College.
Sophomore Jordan Hamm was clocked at 4:10.95 to lead the Eagles in the mile competition. Senior Michael Keebler came in right behind in a personal record of 4:11.74 and Louis Serafini contested the race in 4:12.56.
Junior Matthew Adetula qualified for the meet in the long jump, soaring for a mark of 6.60 meters (21-8.0 ft.).
The Eagles will be off until beginning the outdoor campaign at the Northeastern Husky Spring Open on March 19.
