Women's Basketball Falls to UVA, 53-48

Chestnut Hill, MA - Despite 21 points and 15 rebounds by senior Carolyn Swords, Boston College lost to Virginia, 53-48, at the John Paul Jones Arena on Thursday night. UVA will play Charlotte game this weekend. BC finished the season at 20-13.
Swords shot 10-for-15 from the floor and had two blocks along with her 15 boards to lead BC. Senior Stefanie Murphy had 14 points and five boards in the loss.
UVA put together an 11-4 run early in the second half to pull away from the Eagles. In the run, Swords and freshman Katie Zenevitch both sat with four fouls. The Eagles only points came from two buckets from Stefanie Murphy.
A three-pointer by Chelsea Shine at 6:02 gave UVA its biggest lead, 46-35 with 6:24 to play.
A Kerri Shields three cut the UVA lead to seven points, 47-40, at 5:01. Swords hit a layup with 1:55 to play to cut the UVA lead, 50-46.
Murphy hit a layup with 26.9 to play and BC was down two points, 50-48. UVA's China Crosby hit two free throws with 26.9 to seal the win giving the Cavaliers a 52-48 lead.
Despite 11 points and six boards from Carolyn Swords, the Eagles were down 28-24 at the half. BC was outrebounded 25-16 in the half and shot just 35 percent. Stefanie Murphy struggled as she was saddled with three first half fouls.
BC held a four point lead with two minutes to play but Moorer scored on two traditional three-point plays and a jumper at the buzzer to give UVA the halftime lead. Moorer had nine points in the half. Virginia also had 12 points off the Eagles eight turnovers.
GAME NOTES
• Carolyn Swords finished her career at BC with a program high 46 double-doubles.
• Swords had 2029 career points and 1158 career boards. She is the No. 2 scorer and No. 1 rebounder.
• Stefanie Murphy finished her career with 1722 points for fourth on the all-time list. She is No. 2 in rebounding with 937 boards.
• Jaclyn Thoman finished with 812 career points and 521 career assists.
