Tennis Falls to San Diego, Cal-Irvine

San Diego, Calif. - The No. 39 Boston College women's tennis team was defeated in its first two matches of its annual west coast tour. The Eagles (6-5, 2-0 ACC) were downed by No. 26 University of San Diego, 7-0, on March 8 and fell to UC Irvine, 5-2, the following day.
At San Diego, the Toreros (6-3) came out strong against BC, taking all three doubles matches en route to a sweep in singles play.
At Irvine, senior Katharine Attwell and junior Katarina Gajic captured their match on No. 3 doubles, 8-3, over Hayley and Miranda Young, but freshman Veronica Corning and sophomore Olga Khmylev fell, 8-6, at the No. 1 slot and the Anteaters (5-7, 1-2 Big West) took the pivotal first point.
Khymlev rebounded to win her singles matches and provide BC with one of its two points of the afternoon. The Buffalo, N.Y. native earned a tie-breaker victory over Hannah Hollady, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6, at No. 6 singles.
At No. 2 singles, junior Erina Kikuchi defeated Becka Kwan, 6-3, 6-3, to give the Eagles their second point.
Boston College will compete next on Friday, March 11 against Long Beach State at 1:30 p.m. local time.
