Skillman, N.J. - On the heels of its fourth consecutive win and third over a ranked opponent, the Boston College women's tennis team received its highest ranking in program history when the latest Campbell's ITA Women's College Tennis Rankings skyrocketed BC to No. 44. The Eagles (6-3, 2-0 ACC) spent the first two months of the 2011 campaign unranked on the national poll, which charts the top-75 teams.
"It's a great starting point," Head Coach Nigel Bentley began, "but our ultimate goal is to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. We're competing in the best conference in the country and we want to make some noise this year. We have all been working really hard and know that there's a long way to go, but for now it's really nice to see our program be recognized on a national stage."
Last weekend, the Eagles were able to come away with a pair of victories over No. 65 Purdue and No. 69 Dartmouth, 4-3 and 5-2 respectively.
BC will not compete until beginning a three-match tour on the west coast against No. 29 San Diego on March 8. The Eagles will also meet Cal Irvine and Long Beach State while in the Golden State.
