Senior Caroline King won heat three of the 800-meter qualifying round in 2:08.43 on Day Two of the ACC Track & Field Championships at the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va. The Scotia, N.Y. native will look to extend Boston College reign in the half-mile contest as the top-seeded athlete for the final scheduled to go off Saturday, Feb. 26 at 1:40 p.m.
The women’s Distance Medley Relay earned the silver medal with a time of 11:16.68, the fourth fastest in school history. King led off the Distance Medley Relay as well, passing the baton junior Sara Missert for the 400-meter leg with a 10-meter lead. Missert maintained the team’s position and junior Erin McKenna was only caught towards the end of her second 800-meter of the day, before letting junior Jillian King bring home the medal.
The Boston College women’s track & field team posted 10 personal records or season bests and six ECAC qualifying standards.
All three of the 200-meter competitors, sophomore Margaret O’Dea (26.17), junior Casey Hsiung (26.34) and third-year Rory Cellucci (26.37), set personal bests.
Sophomore Bridget Dahlberg led the Eagles in the mile, coming in at 4:59.13 – missing out on the final round by only two seconds. Sophomore Sarah Lord took seventh in her heat with a PR of 5:02.20 and freshman Jacqueline Pollack demolished her previous best by 23-seconds at 5:13.38.
Four ECAC qualifiers were achieved in the 800. McKenna finished in 10th overall in 2:11.49 and senior Madeline Wallace took second in heat three at 2:12.29, but did not advance. Senior Siobhan Breagy ans Missert ran their fastest times of the season, 2:14.08 and 2:14.62 respectively.
Sophomore Elizabeth O’Brien led a quartet of Eagles to personal records and ECAC standards in their first 5,000-meter race of the season. After going out in very fast lead pack, O’Brien ran navigated the field of 16 runners to finish in 17:08.04, leading senior Hope Krause (17:25.18), sophomore Alison Stasiuk (17:52.12) and senior Christy Titus (18:12.54).
Junior Jillian King, Krause, sophomore Jean Christensen, freshman Morgan Mueller and junior Elizabeth McGuirk are all slated for the 3000-meter run on Day Three of the championship meet.
