The Boston College women's basketball team will host No. 13/16 Miami on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 7 p.m. The Eagles are currently 17-8 and 4-6 in the conference while Miami is 22-3 and 8-2 in the ACC.
Earlier in the season, Boston College lost to the Hurricanes, 65-53, at BankUnited in Coral Gables, Florida. Carolyn Swords led BC with 23 points, while Stefanie Murphy had 15 rebounds. Boston College is coming off a 66-53 loss to No. 5 Duke on Sunday. Senior guard Jaclyn Thoman led BC with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Stefanie Murphy chipped in with 13 points and six rebounds.
Miami is coming off a win over No. 13/10 North Carolina, 78-66, behind 25 points from Riquanna Williams.
The Hurricanes leads the head-to-head series, 18-16. The two teams go back to the Big East days. Since BC joined the ACC in the 2005-06 season, the Eagles leads the series, 8-4.
GAME NOTES
• Carolyn Swords and Stefanie Murphy were the fifth set of teammates in the program to score 1,000 points in the same season (2009-10). The first were Pam Thornton '87 and Kathleen Sweet'87 in the 1986-87 season. Thornton and Sweet reached 1,000 points as seniors, while Swords and Murphy reached the plateau as juniors.
• Jaclyn Thoman has set a personal best of 126 assists this season. Her career-high was 123 set last season. She now has 478 career helpers, enough for sixth on the all-time list.
• Freshman Kristen Doherty is fifth in the ACC in assist-to-turnover ratio and eight in the conference in steals.
• Sophomore Kerri Shields leads the ACC in 3-point field goals made. She has hit 63 three's this season. The sophomore record was 62 held by Mickel Picco '10.
• Carolyn Swords was named to the Naismith Midseason Top 30 watch list.
